Where did the year go? There are just 30 days left in the year. Is there something that you hoped to accomplish earlier this year that is still on the back burner? Today I want to remind you of your dream. It may have been something simple such as "I want to live and work in a clutter-free environment" or "I want to start walking 10 miles a week." Or it may have been something major: "I want to change careers" or "I want to begin a family." Do you have a goal that needs reclaiming?
Instead of throwing in the towel or beating yourself up because you have not made the progress you hoped for, become focused. One of the keys to setting and achieving goals is to expect to hit bumps in the road. Expect to run out of steam sometimes. Then recharge and keep on moving forward. The year is ending, but it is not over yet. Gather the energy and determination to finish strong. Coach yourself with these questions:
1. Which goal would be the most meaningful for me between now and January 1?
We often select goals without prioritizing them. With just 30 days remaining in the year, choose one thing that would really mean something to you.
2. Why is this goal so meaningful to me?
When you are clear on your “why” you understand the true purpose in it. Purpose ignites passion and passion fuels perseverance.
3. What specific steps will I take towards this goal starting today?
Take your goal from the abstract to the specific. Identify specific actions that will move your forward. For example, make that necessary telephone call, engage in that activity, sign up for that class you need, or send that email that will get the ball rolling. Each time you take a step, ask "What is the next step?" Then take it. Before you know it, you will arrive at your destination.
4. Who will I ask to monitor my progress and hold me accountable?
According to research, you are far more likely to reach your goal if you tell someone you have set it. Do not keep your goals to yourself so that you can let yourself off the hook later! Share your goals with one or more supportive people and tell them to ask you regularly how you are coming along.
5. How will I celebrate my accomplishment?
Create something to look forward to. Celebrate your milestone when you reach it.
Dust off a goal that has been buried due to the busyness of life.
When December 31 comes, how will you know you have accomplished your goal? Paint a picture of what it will look like to reach this goal. This allows you to measure your progress and know when you have reached the goal.

Too often I find that my clients also do not lack focus, but they lack a vision. It's hard to set goals and know where you want to go if you haven't laid that out first! This time of year is the "slow time" in my business, where others are busy, so what you do these last few weeks can also depend on that!
Thanks for your comment Ann. You make a valid point. If someone is not on purpose, EVERYTHING is off course. When we have the right purpose, we will
easily develop the right vision. When we have the right vision, we will quickly recognize the right goal.
Thanks for commenting Mitch. I have found that thinking from the end…beginning with the end in mind…sometimes helps in answering "what's next".
