This is Day 2 of creating your vision and mission statement. Today we will identify your core values.
Whether you recognize it or not, you have values that govern your life. These values influence how you make decisions. Your core values reflect what is important to you, how you see the world, and what you believe in. Your values are the principles you have which control your behavior.
Step 1:
To get you started identifying your core values, read the following list and circle 10 values you would like more of during the next six months:
Integrity
Self-worth
Survival
Peace
Simplicity
Beauty
Empowerment
Compassion
Legacy
Knowledge
Faith
Imagination
Friendship
Honor
Trust
Creativity
Respect
Play
Gentleness
Life
Celebration
Health
Adventure
Leadership
Wisdom
Step 2:
Now read through the circled values and put a check mark beside the three values you most want more of in the next six months.
Step 3:
Which one of the three values is your most wanted? This is the one value you want more of in your life than the others. It is called your core value.
Step 4:
Write your core value in big letters below.

Rachel,
This is a great series you've posted. So great, in fact, that it inspired me to put up a post on values on my own blog, Beyond the Therapist's Couch. In that post I reference a NY Times article that demonstrates the value of, well, reflecting on one's values. I also have links to on online tool for sorting through 83 of your favorite values. There's also a link to a paper version for those who prefer the added sensation of working with real paper.
Thanks again for the post, Rachel.
Dave
