Goal setting and how to create goals so that they actually become achievable is a mystery to many. A goal is a wish with a deadline. However, it is not the deadline that counts or what it is that you might want. It is how you set it up for yourself! Human beings are goal seekers. Even as an infant you had goals. To talk, crawl, walk, run…it all took effort. The same creative state can be entered and enjoyed every day of your life.
Happiness and peace of mind are not goals, they are conditions of life that all people want and can be obtained by changing your attitude. Through research, training and experience we have learned that, other than world disasters over which we have little control, everything that happens to us in life is something that we unconsciously choose. I do mean everything! Take total responsibility for creating what you want in life and amazing things can happen.
Taking responsibility means we choose the way we create our lives. When we push that responsibility away, we are open to only receiving everything that life tends to throw at us which can include many negative things. It is much more fun, exciting and interesting to create the life you truly want than to just let it happen! Remember also to check your environment. It is important to take responsibility for liking that too.
People who achieve goals do not limit themselves. Let your imagination flow freely. Think and dream big. Your future is created by what you do today. Be willing to ask for help when needed.
- Make your goals wants, not needs!
- Make them very specific. See the goals completed. Feel the feelings. Hear the sounds.
- Write them so that the mind can create them. Writing gives the goals power.
- Choose two short term goals (three to six months) and two long term goals (one to three years). They need to be seen on a consistent basis. Do not just rely on having them on your computer. I usually suggest taping them on the bathroom mirror and the refrigerator.
- Create a plan of action. Move forward one day at a time taking each day as it comes and having an action plan.
- Write them in the now. The subconscious does not differentiate between reality and wishful thinking. If you write it in the now, it records the goal as having happened.
Examples:
- It is now December 31, 20xx. I have X amount of dollars in savings and X amount of dollars coming in on a consistent basis. It feels really great.
- It is now December 31, 20xx. I am looking in the mirror seeing myself in my new size xx clothing and I feel fantastic.
Throw out all the negatives. You do not need them. Think big, then think even bigger! I would suggest that you think about what you do have, what you can do, how great your life is becoming each day. Move toward your goals. Create your own magic!
People who wait for a magic wand fail to see that they are the magic wand. ~Thomas Leonard
